Uber (UBER) to Reduce Workforce by 10% to Streamline Operations and Cut Costs

Uber announced on Wednesday that it will cut 10% of its workforce as part of a strategy to consolidate management layers and reduce costs. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that these changes are intended to make the company 'simpler and faster' while also creating more capacity for future investments. Following the announcement, Uber's shares increased by approximately 2% in premarket trading.

Although the company did not specify the exact number of jobs affected, it had around 34,000 employees at the end of 2025. The restructuring involves significant reductions in small teams and a 20% cut in employees who are seven steps away from the CEO.

Khosrowshahi noted that Uber has outgrown its existing management structures and is also merging teams and centralizing operations in key locations like New York and San Francisco, with only about 1% of employees permitted to work remotely. He stated that a leaner organization would lead to clearer ownership, quicker decision-making, and more focus on building rather than coordinating
