Gallup Poll Reveals U.S. Worker Engagement Hits Lowest Level Since 2011 Amid AI Adoption

Gallup's third-quarter 2026 survey indicates a significant decline in employee engagement, falling to 29%, which is a two-percentage-point drop from the previous quarter and represents approximately 3.2 million fewer engaged workers. This decline is particularly pronounced among remote and hybrid employees, especially in organizations that have integrated artificial intelligence.

The survey highlights that only 46% of workers felt clear about their job expectations, down from 49%, and only 37% felt that their supervisors cared about them, a decrease from 40%. These findings suggest that the shift to remote work and the adoption of AI may be contributing to a disconnect between employees and their organizations.

Jim Harter from Gallup emphasized that the decline in engagement could negatively impact core business metrics such as productivity and profitability.

While other surveys, like the Conference Board's Job Satisfaction Index, show mixed results, the overall trend indicates a worrying pattern of disengagement, particularly as companies struggle to communicate effectively in a changing work environment
