SpaceX has secured an extension of its contract with NASA, which will involve three more crewed Dragon flights to the International Space Station (ISS) through 2030. This contract could yield up to $946 million for SpaceX, increasing its total earnings from NASA to $5.92 billion under the Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract.
The addition of these flights brings SpaceX's total operational missions to 17, which is significant for maintaining NASA's access to the ISS alongside Boeing's Starliner program. NASA's statement highlights the importance of having two commercial partners for crewed missions.
SpaceX's responsibilities under this contract include comprehensive support services such as ground operations, launch, in-orbit activities, and recovery operations. The upcoming Crew 13 launch is scheduled for October, with Crew 14 expected in the spring of 2027.
Meanwhile, SpaceX is reportedly winding down its Dragon program, which has been operational for six years, as it shifts focus to its Starship rocket for future missions.
