CIBC Identifies Top Stocks to Invest in Following Democratic Midterm Victory

CIBC's report outlines two investment baskets based on the political landscape post-midterms: one for a Democratic-controlled Congress and another for a Republican-controlled one. The Democratic basket includes prominent tech companies like Meta Platforms, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft, along with firms from various sectors such as consumer staples and utilities.

The bank anticipates a defensive market approach, favoring multinationals and lower-volatility stocks as investors become more cautious. Christopher Harvey, CIBC's head of equity and portfolio strategy, noted that in a more regulated environment, there is a shift away from AI-related stocks towards larger tech firms.

Additionally, CIBC expressed concerns about Texas's political changes affecting AI industrial stocks, predicting potential underperformance in that sector due to new construction moratoriums. However, they expect that most scheduled data centers will still be built, driven by the economic benefits they provide.

In contrast, the Republican basket focuses on AI exposure, anticipating fewer regulations and more favorable conditions for data-center construction, featuring companies like Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices
