Livestream shopping is rapidly gaining traction in the U.S., with TikTok Shop and Whatnot leading the charge. Sarah Potempa, CEO of Beachwaver, exemplifies this trend by generating $8,000 in sales during a recent TikTok livestream, where interactive elements like auctions and live demonstrations engage viewers.

TikTok reported that live shopping sales more than doubled in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, with a 60% increase in live sessions. Whatnot, valued at $20 billion, has also seen significant growth, particularly in collectibles.

The U.S. live shopping market is projected to reach nearly $20 billion by 2026, reflecting a shift in consumer behavior towards more interactive and engaging shopping experiences. However, challenges such as counterfeit goods and competition for visibility remain.

Legacy retailers like Amazon and Walmart are also exploring live shopping, but they face structural challenges in adapting to this new format. Overall, livestream shopping is bridging the gap between e-commerce and traditional retail, offering a unique way for consumers to engage with products and sellers
