Disney (DIS) to Lay Off Approximately 300 Employees Under New CEO Josh D’Amaro

Disney is undergoing significant workforce reductions, with the latest round affecting around 300 employees primarily in human resources and technology roles. This follows earlier layoffs where the company aimed to cut up to 1,000 positions as part of a broader strategy to consolidate its enterprise marketing division.

CEO Josh D'Amaro, who took over in March, is implementing a strategy called 'One Disney' to better integrate the company's various divisions, including film, streaming, and theme parks. The company has indicated that these layoffs are part of a cost-reduction initiative aimed at creating capacity for future investments.

In its August earnings report, Disney acknowledged the need to evaluate cost-cutting measures, including labor reductions, as it navigates the challenges posed by the rise of streaming services and digital entertainment. The layoffs are a response to the need for Disney to adapt and streamline its operations in a rapidly changing media environment
