The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing most U.S. automakers, has formally requested Congress to act before its session ends on January 3, 2023.
CEO John Bozzella highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that while Chinese automakers have not yet penetrated the U.S. market, they are aggressively exporting subsidized vehicles globally, which could undermine American manufacturers.
The letter coincides with bipartisan legislative efforts to address the issue, including potential restrictions on companies like Mercedes-Benz due to Chinese investment stakes. Automakers fear that Chinese firms, such as BYD and Geely, are gaining market share in Europe and Latin America, which could further threaten U.S. market dynamics.
