According to an analysis by Draup, job listings for AI-related positions at banks like JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Capital One increased by 49% this year, totaling 139,819 listings. The most notable growth area is in skills related to AI agents, with references to agent orchestration rising by an astounding 1,721%.
Draup CEO Vijay Swaminathan emphasized that understanding data and AI is crucial for these roles, which are evolving beyond traditional engineering and data science positions to include forward-deployed engineers who integrate AI into various business functions.
This shift reflects banks' strategies to automate processes and improve efficiency, requiring a blend of technical and domain-specific knowledge. Additionally, there is a notable rise in the demand for soft skills, such as problem-solving and creativity, alongside technical expertise.
The focus on responsible AI and governance is also increasing, with job postings mentioning these areas surging by 657% and 394%, respectively. Despite the higher salaries associated with these roles, filling them remains challenging, prompting banks to invest in internal reskilling programs.
This transformation in the workforce is likely to have significant implications for how banks operate and manage their resources as AI continues to reshape the industry
