Analysts Gartner predict 80% of neocloud companies will cease operations or be absorbed by 2030 amid market turmoil

The recent week has been challenging for the AI infrastructure market, highlighted by sharp declines in companies like Neoclouds, CoreWeave, and others, which have seen losses exceeding 30% in October. Credit default swaps (CDS) for these firms have surged, indicating heightened investor concern over potential defaults.

CoreWeave's CDS spreads have widened past 11%, a level typically associated with distress, while yields on its unsecured notes have surpassed 15%. This trend reflects a broader skepticism among investors about the viability of neocloud companies, with Gartner analysts predicting that 80% may not survive or will be absorbed by 2030.

The situation is compounded by Meta's recent report of negative cash flow exceeding $2 billion and an increase in its capital expenditure forecast, which led to a 7% drop in its stock. Additionally, SK Hynix's decision to withdraw its IPO for Solidigm, a unit focused on NAND and SSD storage, underscores the prevailing market volatility.

Despite the turmoil, major tech companies have retained their investment-grade ratings, although there are signs of increasing caution in the market. Investors are actively seeking risk management strategies, as the interconnectedness of the AI sector raises concerns about broader market impacts
