Following the midterm elections, major technology companies experienced notable stock increases, with Amazon rising 8%, Google over 6%, and Apple nearly 7%. This surge is attributed to the election results that created a divided government, which analysts believe will lead to moderated growth and inflation, ultimately benefiting the stock market.
David Kelly from JPMorgan Asset Management highlighted that this outcome alleviates uncertainty. Conversely, stocks linked to Elon Musk and those involved in AI data center projects faced declines, as voters largely opposed local measures that would facilitate the development of these centers.
Analysts noted that the election results could lead to increased regulatory hurdles for new data center projects, particularly in states where Democrats advocating for moratoriums won gubernatorial races. This has raised concerns about the future of AI infrastructure investments, especially for smaller providers, referred to as neoclouds, which saw significant stock drops.
In contrast, larger cloud providers, or hyperscalers, are expected to benefit from higher regulatory barriers that could entrench their market position. Despite potential regional restrictions, there remains a strong demand for cloud capacity, and companies with established infrastructure may be better positioned to capitalize on ongoing market needs
