Democratic Attorneys General Decline Invitation to Vice President JD Vance’s Anti-Fraud Roundtable at the White House Due to Short Notice

On Tuesday, 24 Democratic state attorneys general (AGs) declined an invitation to a roundtable hosted by Vice President JD Vance focused on anti-fraud initiatives. They expressed their concerns in a letter, stating that the invitation was issued with less than one business day's notice and lacked a clear agenda, which they felt undermined the spirit of collaboration.

Notably, among those who declined was Keith Ellison of Minnesota, a state currently under scrutiny for alleged Medicaid fraud. The roundtable was initially planned for Republican AGs, but Vance advocated for Democratic participation.

While some Democratic offices will still be represented by chiefs of staff or principal deputies, the AGs emphasized their commitment to combating fraud and maintaining the integrity of government programs. They indicated a willingness to engage in future discussions with proper notice and a structured agenda.

The task force, established by Trump's executive order, aims to address fraud in various federal assistance programs, highlighting the significant issues of fraud and waste, particularly in Minnesota, where Medicaid fraud could reach billions.

This situation underscores the challenges of bipartisan cooperation in addressing fraud within government programs, especially amid ongoing affordability concerns
