Huawei Introduces New Smartphone Chips Amid Intensifying Competition with Nvidia and Apple

Huawei announced its new engineering approach, 'LogicFolding,' aimed at improving the manufacturing of its Kirin smartphone chips, which is set to launch this fall. This innovation comes at a time when Nvidia is struggling to penetrate the Chinese market due to U.S. export restrictions, with CEO Jensen Huang acknowledging that the company has effectively conceded this market to Huawei.

The introduction of the Mate 60 smartphone, featuring advanced 5G capabilities, has allowed Huawei to regain market share from Apple in China. Huawei claims that by 2031, its technology could achieve capabilities comparable to 1.4-nanometer process technology, while TSMC is already producing 2-nanometer chips.

However, experts like Paul Triolo express skepticism about Huawei's claims, noting that while the new design may improve density, it does not necessarily resolve the broader challenges associated with advanced chip manufacturing.

Huawei is also seeking to establish its semiconductor research as a new academic standard, termed the 'Law of Tau,' which aims to address industry challenges but may not fully replace the principles of Moore's Law.

Despite these advancements, Huawei acknowledges ongoing challenges in heat management and scaling production, indicating that the company is at the beginning of a long development journey for this new technology
