Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation CEO Jo Townsend Warns of Potential U.S. Stock Market Correction

Jo Townsend, CEO of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, indicated that while the fund achieved a remarkable 14.2% growth in the fiscal year ending June 30, the U.S. equity market may be due for a correction. She noted that returns for U.S. equities have been significantly higher than the historical average, suggesting a reversion to the mean is likely.

The fund's long-term expected annual return was recently lowered from 7.8% to 7.2%, reflecting a belief that equity returns will decrease. The fund's diversified strategy, which includes significant investments in companies like Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Amazon, has contributed to its success, but the management is cautious about future performance.

This sentiment aligns with warnings from other sovereign wealth fund leaders, including Nicolai Tangen of Norway's $2.3 trillion fund, who advised against expecting similar returns in the near future
