Ford's July vehicle sales dropped significantly, yet the company views this as a positive outcome due to its strategic decisions.
Rob Kaffl, Ford's director of U.S. sales, explained that the decline was intentional, as the company is discontinuing certain models, including the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair, and reducing its reliance on low-margin rental fleet sales, which fell by 96% year-over-year. This strategy is designed to make way for new product launches expected by the end of the decade.
Despite the 10.2% drop, Ford believes that without these measures, the decline would have been less than 1%, which is slightly better than the estimated 2% decrease for the overall industry. Year-to-date, Ford's sales are down 9.7%, compared to a 2.4% decline for the industry through the first half of the year.
The overall auto market is facing challenges, including higher prices and economic concerns, with forecasts suggesting a 3% decline in total sales for the year, amounting to approximately 15.8 million vehicles sold
