Alphabet's Waymo is enhancing its commercial operations by offering driverless rides in San Diego, Tampa, and Denver, marking its entry into Colorado. With over 4,000 vehicles across 14 cities, Waymo aims to increase its fleet and ride offerings significantly, targeting over 1 million rides per week by the end of 2026.
In contrast, Amazon's Zoox plans to test its vehicles in Houston and San Diego, expanding its reach to 12 U.S. markets, although it currently lags behind Waymo in paid ride-hailing services. Goldman Sachs Research anticipates the U.S. robotaxi market will grow from approximately $3 billion next year to $19 billion by 2030 and further to $48 billion by 2035.
However, the rapid growth of the autonomous vehicle sector faces scrutiny from labor leaders concerned about job losses and safety advocates calling for better transparency regarding vehicle performance and safety data
