During an interview with CNBC, UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti expressed concerns about investor complacency in the face of escalating geopolitical tensions and economic challenges. He noted that while markets have seen some volatility, strong investments in sectors like artificial intelligence and technology have provided support.
However, Ermotti warned that new issues are emerging without resolution of existing problems, including risks from the Iran and Ukraine conflicts, U.S.-China supply chain strains, and persistent inflation.
He observed that wealthy investors are diversifying their portfolios rather than making bold directional bets, with some reallocating excess cash into global emerging markets without significantly reducing their U.S. holdings.
Furthermore, Ermotti indicated that higher interest rates, driven by ongoing inflation, are prompting a more balanced investment strategy, as he anticipates further rate hikes from major central banks in the near future
