President Trump Denies White House Ordered Starlink Restrictions for Ukraine’s Military

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the White House did not order any restrictions on Starlink satellite internet services used by Ukraine's armed forces, countering claims made by Ukrainian officials.

These officials reported that SpaceX had imposed restrictions on Starshield, a military-grade version of Starlink, which hindered military operations and civilian defense efforts against Russian attacks. Elon Musk attributed the responsibility for these restrictions to the U.S. government, asserting that Starshield systems are under its control.

Ukrainian advisor Serhii Beskrestnov indicated that the lack of prior warning about these restrictions led to mission failures for their armed forces. The situation has drawn criticism from Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who questioned Musk's motives, highlighting the reliance of Ukraine on Starlink services purchased from SpaceX.

Following these developments, SpaceX shares have dropped approximately 11% this week, with the company set to release its quarterly results on Tuesday. The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the availability of these critical communications services could have significant implications for both military operations in Ukraine and investor confidence in SpaceX
