SpaceX Partners with Qualcomm to Develop Network Technology for Starlink Mobile Service

SpaceX has entered into a multiyear agreement with Qualcomm to enhance its Starlink Mobile service, which aims to challenge established mobile carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Qualcomm will assist in building a terrestrial network that complements Starlink's satellite capabilities, with plans for rollout starting next year.

Although financial details of the deal were not disclosed, this collaboration is crucial for SpaceX, as Starlink currently accounts for 36% of its revenue and 85% of its operating profit. The partnership comes at a time when SpaceX is actively acquiring spectrum and exploring additional acquisitions, such as EchoStar's Boost Mobile.

Qualcomm's involvement is notable as it has a strong background in cellular technology, particularly in 5G infrastructure, and this deal positions SpaceX as a prominent customer in this sector.

While the specifics regarding new cell tower partnerships remain unclear, the initiative could significantly impact the competitive dynamics of the mobile market, especially given SpaceX's recent valuation of nearly $2 trillion following its record IPO
