On Tuesday, Asian technology stocks fell sharply as the downturn in U.S. semiconductor shares impacted regional markets. Notably, South Korean chip manufacturer SK Hynix saw its shares drop over 8%, while Samsung Electronics fell 6.7%, both reaching their lowest prices since August.
In Japan, SoftBank Group, heavily invested in the AI sector, saw an 8.8% decline, contributing to a broader sell-off in Japanese semiconductor and electronics stocks. Companies like Tokyo Electron and Advantest also faced losses of 6.75% and 5.65%, respectively. This trend followed a weak performance on Wall Street, where the Nasdaq Composite decreased by 0.44%.
Additionally, U.S. memory chipmaker Micron Technology fell 3.9% amid rising competition from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies. Concerns were raised by the CEOs of Intel and Broadcom regarding potential capital access issues that could hinder the AI industry's growth, despite ongoing high demand for computing infrastructure.
