Kevin Warsh's keynote address at the Jackson Hole symposium has significantly influenced market perceptions about the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision. Following his remarks, traders on Kalshi now estimate a 48% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike, a notable shift from nearly 70% odds favoring no change prior to the speech.
The CME's FedWatch tool indicates a 56% likelihood of a quarter-point increase, while Polymarket shows 49%. This change comes after a disappointing employment report for July, which revealed job losses and a cooling inflation rate, despite remaining above the Fed's 2% target.
Warsh emphasized the need for confidence in underlying inflation trends before making further rate adjustments, stating that recent improvements do not indicate a meaningful shift. Consequently, short-term Treasury yields have risen, with the 2-year yield reaching its highest level since late July.
The Fed's decision is scheduled for September 16, making the current market sentiment critical for investors
