MediaTek, the leading smartphone chip manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Nvidia that is expected to enhance its position in the data center market. Nvidia's investment of $3.5 billion in convertible bonds is a key component of this collaboration, which has already contributed to a nearly 200% increase in MediaTek's stock price this year.

The partnership will allow MediaTek to utilize Nvidia's NVLink Fusion platform, enabling the integration of custom semiconductors with Nvidia's AI infrastructure. This move is particularly significant as tech companies increasingly seek custom chips for AI workloads, positioning MediaTek as a potential competitor to established players like Broadcom.

Additionally, the companies plan to collaborate on local AI computing, which includes developing chips for PCs and automotive systems. MediaTek has projected that its custom AI chip business could generate $2 billion in revenue this year, with a total addressable market of up to $80 billion by 2027.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has praised MediaTek as a leading semiconductor company, further highlighting the importance of this partnership in the evolving tech landscape
