Lawsuit Accuses President Donald Trump of Illegally Profiting from Foreign Crypto Deals Involving World Liberty Financial

10/22/2026, 10:37 AM politics announcement

The lawsuit, initiated by J. Benjamin Greenberg, a shareholder of Circle Internet Group, claims that Trump and his company, World Liberty Financial, violated the U.S. Constitution's Foreign Emoluments Clause by profiting from over $2 billion in foreign crypto deals.

Central to the allegations is a $500 million investment from Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a key figure in the UAE, who acquired a 49% stake in World Liberty shortly before Trump's inauguration.

The lawsuit also points to a scheme involving an Abu Dhabi investment fund that allegedly inflated the value of Trump's crypto holdings through a $2 billion purchase of World Liberty's stablecoin, USD1. Greenberg seeks a court ruling to declare these profits unconstitutional and demands that Trump disclose any other foreign emoluments received.

World Liberty Financial has denied any wrongdoing, asserting compliance with U.S. laws. The lawsuit could have far-reaching consequences for Trump's financial interests, especially as his crypto business has reportedly generated substantial income for him, despite significant losses for investors.

The ongoing scrutiny of Trump's business dealings, particularly in relation to foreign investments, may intensify if Democrats gain subpoena power in the upcoming midterm elections
