Analysts JPMorgan downgraded Nike (NKE) to underweight and cut price target to $40 amid prolonged turnaround challenges

Nike's turnaround strategy, termed 'Win Now,' is taking longer than expected, prompting JPMorgan to adjust its outlook on the stock. Analyst Matthew Boss noted that the financial repercussions of this plan will affect Nike's balance sheet through 2026 and into 2027 and 2028.

The bank has lowered its price target for Nike shares to $40, suggesting a potential 6% decline from the recent closing price. Additionally, Nike is facing challenges in key markets, particularly in China, where sales have recently declined, and the company is expected to encounter a $1 billion revenue headwind as it works to enhance its digital marketplace.

In North America, Nike's strategy to reduce its store footprint by about 10% will also create financial pressures until the effects are fully realized, likely by mid-2027. As a result, Nike's shares fell over 3% in premarket trading, and overall analyst sentiment remains cautious, with a significant number of analysts recommending a hold on the stock.

Investors are now looking ahead to the company's Investor Day in November for further insights into its long-term strategy
