In June, Japan's exports experienced their most significant growth since November 2022, increasing by 19.3% year-on-year, which exceeded the anticipated 18.6% rise. This growth was largely fueled by a 53.8% surge in semiconductor shipments, reflecting the ongoing demand from the AI sector.

Notably, exports to Taiwan jumped 46.4%, while shipments to China and the U.S. rose by 17.6% and 13%, respectively. The weak yen, currently at 163 against the dollar, has also contributed to the robust export performance. Meanwhile, imports rose 25.4%, driven by a 59.3% increase in petroleum imports, as Japan continues to rely heavily on foreign energy sources.

The Bank of Japan has indicated that the global economic upswing, particularly due to AI demand, has alleviated concerns about a slowdown in Japan's economy, which grew 0.5% sequentially in the first quarter and 1.8% on an annualized basis. Following the release of this trade data, the Nikkei 225 index rose by 1.56%, reflecting investor optimism about Japan's economic outlook
