GoPro has announced a definitive merger with Starman Optical, a private photonics company, aiming to expand into the AI data center and defense sectors. CEO Nicholas Woodman highlighted that this merger positions GoPro to grow across various markets, particularly in areas related to national security involving cameras and optics.

Following the announcement, GoPro's shares experienced a remarkable 40% increase. Shareholders will receive a cash payment of $285 million, equating to $1.14 per share, while the stock will continue to be listed on Nasdaq. Notably, YouTuber Markiplier holds an 8.5% stake in GoPro, and BlackRock has a 6.4% stake, indicating strong interest from influential investors.

The company also plans to repay its $92 million debt upon closing the deal and will maintain support for its existing consumer products and subscription services.
