Delta Air Lines Delays Launch of Nonstop Service to Riyadh Until March Following Airport Attacks

Delta Air Lines announced a delay in launching its nonstop service between Atlanta and Riyadh, originally scheduled for October 23, due to escalating violence at King Khalid International Airport. The decision follows deadly attacks claimed by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis, which resulted in at least 12 fatalities and over 300 injuries, prompting the airport's closure.

Delta's CEO Ed Bastian emphasized the importance of safety in their operations, stating that the airline remains committed to the Saudi market despite the current challenges. The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a warning for U.S. airlines to exercise caution in the region, citing safety-of-flight risks associated with ongoing military activities.

This situation has led to widespread flight cancellations and travel advisories from several countries, including the U.S. and Australia, affecting not only Delta but the broader airline industry operating in or around Saudi Arabia
