On Sunday, an Amazon cargo jet operated by 21 Air LLC crashed at Miami International Airport after overrunning the runway by approximately 1,300 feet. The incident resulted in at least five fatalities and injuries to five others, with the aircraft striking two vehicles, including a van and a passenger car.

Jennifer Homendy, chair of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), described the crash scene as 'utter devastation' and noted that investigators have recovered the flight data and cockpit voice recorders for analysis. The NTSB will investigate the operational relationship between Amazon and 21 Air, focusing on safety provisions in their contracts.

The crash has led to the closure of two runways at the airport, causing over 160 flight cancellations and nearly 325 delays, significantly impacting travel during a busy holiday weekend. The airport, known for being the busiest U.S. airport for international freight, is expected to face ongoing disruptions as investigations continue
