Uber and Costco have announced a major expansion of their partnership, increasing the availability of Costco products on Uber Eats from 17 states to 47 states. This move will allow nearly 600 Costco locations to offer delivery through the Uber Eats platform, providing Costco members with more shopping options.
Andrew Macdonald, President and COO of Uber, emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting Costco's reputation as a leading retailer and the potential for Uber to enhance consumer access to everyday shopping needs. To utilize this service, Uber Eats shoppers will need to verify their Costco membership, and some members may receive discounts on Uber's paid membership program, Uber One.
Additionally, customers will have the option to purchase Costco memberships directly through the Uber Eats app. This partnership is strategically important as Uber Eats faces growing competition from other delivery services like Instacart, DoorDash, and Amazon Fresh, as well as Walmart's recent foray into restaurant delivery.
By broadening its customer base and appealing to younger consumers who may be less familiar with Costco's bulk shopping model, this expansion could significantly impact both companies' market positions
