Bank of America Hires 1,000 Contractors to Address Software Vulnerabilities Exposed by Anthropic’s AI Model Mythos

Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan revealed that the bank has engaged 1,000 external contractors to address software vulnerabilities identified by AI models like Anthropic's Mythos. This initiative follows a proactive approach taken earlier this year to enhance the security of both internal and vendor code, involving a total of 4,000 personnel.

The bank's third-quarter spending on software remediation and compliance issues exceeded a couple hundred million dollars. Moynihan emphasized the necessity of this investment, noting the real risks posed by AI's ability to exploit existing software flaws.

Despite a temporary increase in costs, he reassured investors that remediation expenses are expected to decline as the bank completes its patching efforts. Additionally, Bank of America is leveraging AI for cost savings, projecting a rise in savings from $300 million this year to $700 million by 2027, even as the bank's workforce has decreased by approximately 3,400 employees over the past year.

This situation underscores the complex relationship between AI advancements and operational challenges in the financial sector
