AWS reported that it is unable to restore access to cloud-computing facilities in Bahrain and parts of the UAE, more than six months after drone strikes caused extensive damage. The company stated that the damage exceeded the resilience of its services, and it has advised customers to relocate their workloads to other regions.
The strikes, claimed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have prompted AWS to warn of ongoing instability in the Middle East, affecting operations. This incident has sparked concerns regarding the security of future data center projects in the Gulf, particularly as the region aims to meet rising infrastructure demands driven by the AI boom.
In response, the UAE is considering revising its plans for a major data center campus, potentially dispersing facilities and enhancing security measures. AWS remains committed to its customers in the region and plans to provide further updates in the coming months
