Kara Nortman, owner of Angel City Football Club, discusses the impact of the Enneagram personality test on her success in women’s sports

Kara Nortman, who transitioned from a successful career in technology and venture capital to owning a women's professional sports team, credits the Enneagram personality test as a pivotal tool in her journey.

After attending the 2015 Women's World Cup Final and recognizing a lack of merchandise and information about women's soccer, she co-founded Angel City Football Club, now the most valuable women's football club globally.

Nortman believes the Enneagram, which categorizes individuals into nine personality types based on core motivations, has significantly influenced her understanding of herself and her team members. She has applied this framework not only in her ventures but also in personal relationships, advocating for its use in fostering empathy and collaboration.

Despite mixed scientific evidence regarding the Enneagram's reliability, Nortman and other business leaders, such as Dropbox's Drew Houston and Shopify's Tobi Lütke, have found value in using it to enhance team dynamics and personal growth. Nortman's insights suggest that recognizing individual differences can lead to more effective teamwork and innovation in the industry
