During a recent interview with CNBC, Peter DeSantis, Amazon's senior vice president overseeing AI and semiconductor initiatives, acknowledged that the company has not yet reached the forefront of AI model development, particularly in handling the most demanding workloads.

He emphasized that Amazon is focused on establishing a strong foundation in data, architecture, and infrastructure to enhance its AI capabilities. Amazon's dual approach includes the Bedrock marketplace for accessing various AI models and the release of its Nova2 model, which has attracted around 50,000 customers.

DeSantis noted that while Nova2 is not yet considered among the top-tier AI models, the company aspires to elevate its status. Additionally, Amazon's strategy involves developing custom chips, such as Trainium and Graviton, to optimize AI performance.

DeSantis compared Amazon's chip development capabilities to those of Nvidia and hinted at the potential for future sales of Trainium and Graviton chips to third parties, although no specific timeline has been established. This strategic positioning aims to reassure investors of Amazon's commitment to becoming a significant player in the rapidly evolving AI landscape
