Rep. Josh Gottheimer Discloses AI-Linked Stock Purchases Despite Supporting Congressional Trading Ban

Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who is involved in crafting the Democratic Party's artificial intelligence agenda, has made notable investments in AI-linked stocks, including Benchmark Electronics and Applied Materials, shortly after voting to restrict stock trading by lawmakers.

His purchases, disclosed on October 12 and October 26, amount to between $5,005 and $75,000, a small fraction of his reported household assets of $15.1 million to $59 million. Gottheimer's spokesman stated that he has delegated investment decisions to a third party since taking office in 2017 and is awaiting approval for a blind trust.

This situation is particularly significant as Democrats prepare to gain more power in Congress, which may lead to increased scrutiny and regulation of the AI sector. The timing of his trades coincides with a broader Democratic push against AI companies, including calls for restrictions on taxpayer bailouts and demands for AI executives to testify.

The recent downturn in AI stocks, including a 5.5% drop in the Nasdaq Composite Index, adds further context to Gottheimer's investments, which could be perceived as conflicting with his legislative stance on stock trading
