On Sunday, an Amazon cargo plane operated by 21 Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The aircraft struck multiple vehicles and caught fire, prompting a large response from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, which dispatched over 60 units to the scene. Fortunately, details regarding injuries or fatalities have not yet been disclosed.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the incident occurred around 2 p.m., leading to a full ground stop at the airport and the closure of all runways and taxiways. As a result, approximately 250 flights were delayed, with expectations of continued disruptions even after the airport reopens.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy indicated that the FAA is sending investigators to the site, while the National Transportation Safety Board is also gathering information about the crash. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel stated that the company is cooperating with local authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
