Thousands of protesters gathered in Tirana, Albania, over the weekend, marking one of the largest demonstrations against a proposed multi-billion-euro tourism project on the Adriatic coast, which is associated with Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners.
The protests, now in their 22nd consecutive day, have seen participants carrying Albanian flags and banners proclaiming 'Albania is not for sale,' while calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edil Rama. The demonstrations have expanded beyond the specific project to encompass widespread anger over perceived government corruption and opaque real estate dealings.
The movement has been dubbed the 'flamingo revolution' due to concerns about the environmental impact on local wildlife, particularly flamingos, from such developments. Prime Minister Rama has defended the project and attributed the protests more to Kushner's involvement than to environmental issues.
