Weil, Gotshal & Manges, a Longtime Wall Street Law Firm, Recommends Wind Down of Operations

The management committee of Weil, Gotshal & Manges has advised its partners to wind down the firm's operations after experiencing a departure of partners and unsuccessful merger discussions with Willkie Farr & Gallagher.

With approximately 1,200 lawyers and over $2 billion in revenue reported in 2025, the firm has a long history of handling major bankruptcy cases, including those of Lehman Brothers, General Motors, and Enron.

In a statement, the firm emphasized its commitment to continue serving clients during the wind-down process while maintaining the quality of service that has characterized its operations for over 90 years. A vote by the partners is anticipated in the coming days, which will determine the next steps for the firm
