Democratic Senate nominee Mary Peltola’s campaign allegedly involved efforts to recruit Daniel J. Sullivan as a spoiler in Alaska Senate race

Recent reports indicate that aides from Mary Peltola's campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) were involved in efforts to recruit Daniel J. Sullivan to run in the Alaska Senate race, potentially to dilute support for the incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan.

Although Peltola's former campaign manager, Elisa Rios, stated that Peltola was aware of these efforts, both Peltola's campaign and the DSCC have denied any involvement in recruiting spoiler candidates. The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit alleging that Daniel J. Sullivan's candidacy could confuse voters, which may affect the election outcome.

This lawsuit seeks to block the certification of any results influenced by voter confusion, with a decision expected before the November 3 election. The situation is further complicated by Alaska's ranked-choice voting system, which could allow votes for the non-incumbent Sullivan to be transferred to the incumbent if he is eliminated.

The outcome of this election could be pivotal in determining whether Democrats regain a Senate majority or Republicans maintain control, making the stakes particularly high for both parties
