Volkswagen's management is under pressure from its largest investor, Porsche SE, to expedite a major overhaul amid a challenging market environment. The company has confirmed plans to reduce its workforce by up to 100,000, which is double the initial estimates, as it grapples with rising tariff costs and fierce competition from Chinese brands.

Hans Dieter Pötsch, chairman of Porsche SE, emphasized that the decisions made now will be crucial for Volkswagen's future, urging a focus on necessary business actions over other considerations. Johannes Lattwein, also from Porsche SE, highlighted the need for Volkswagen to cut excess capacity and improve decision-making to maintain competitiveness.

This restructuring comes as Porsche SE reported a 14.5% decline in half-year earnings, reflecting broader challenges in the auto industry. Volkswagen's stock has already seen a nearly 28% drop this year, indicating investor concerns about its ability to adapt to the evolving market landscape
