President Donald Trump is set to meet with leaders from prominent airlines, hotel chains, and travel companies to discuss the recent boost in tourism attributed to the men's FIFA World Cup.
This meeting includes representatives from major firms such as American Airlines, Hilton, and Carnival, and aims to sustain the increased travel demand despite a backdrop of declining international arrivals and rising travel costs. According to the U.S.
Travel Association, spending on U.S. travel rose 6.2% year-over-year in June, reaching $122.1 billion, largely driven by peak summer demand and elevated hotel rates in World Cup host cities. However, the travel sector faces challenges, including a 1.3% decline in air passenger volumes and a 1.8% drop in overseas arrivals for the year to date.
The White House plans to highlight initiatives that facilitated World Cup visitor accommodations, such as expedited visa processing and increased staffing at Customs and Border Protection. Additionally, discussions will focus on maintaining travel demand post-World Cup and addressing concerns over new visa fees and entry requirements that could hinder international tourism growth
