President Trump stated that he and his political action committee, MAGA Inc., will cover the costs of controversial television ads that have been airing ahead of the midterm elections. These ads, which have reportedly utilized up to $20 million from the Department of Homeland Security, have drawn criticism for resembling Republican campaign messaging.

Trump defended the ads on Truth Social, claiming they are a positive promotion of the U.S. and asserting that he would pay for them himself, rather than using taxpayer funds. AdImpact reported that approximately $9.7 million has already been spent on these ads, raising questions about whether Trump will reimburse the government for prior expenditures.

The controversy intensified after a report from The New York Times indicated that Trump directed his budget director to allocate taxpayer money for these ads. Critics, including Senator Maggie Hassan, have raised concerns that the ads violate federal laws against using government funds for political propaganda.
