This initiative, which began on July 4, aims to provide investment opportunities for U.S. children under 18, allowing them to receive a one-time $1,000 deposit from the Treasury and enabling annual contributions of up to $5,000 from family members.
The accounts are designed to invest in exchange-traded funds that track the S&P 500, potentially leading to significant long-term asset accumulation, estimated between $80 billion and $900 billion over the next decade, according to McKinsey.
Bessent emphasized the importance of this program in creating a new class of shareholders and addressing the wealth gap in stock ownership among American families.
