Saudi-led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Ballistic Missiles Targeting Saudi Cities Amid Renewed Fighting

10/24/2026, 06:31 AM politics announcement

On Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition reported the destruction of two ballistic missiles launched by the Iran-aligned Houthi group towards the cities of Taif and Yanbu. This incident prompted Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense to issue temporary alerts for potential danger in Taif, Yanbu, Mecca, and Jeddah, although the threat was later deemed to have passed.

The missile interceptions followed Houthi claims of attacks on key Saudi targets, including the defense ministry in Riyadh and facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco in Yanbu, which reportedly resulted in two fatalities. While Saudi authorities have not confirmed these attacks, they have taken precautionary measures, including evacuating staff from Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran.

The situation escalated further with the coalition intercepting drones over Riyadh and Medina, despite the Houthis denying involvement in these drone launches. The renewed hostilities have effectively ended a UN-brokered truce from 2022, which had previously reduced cross-border attacks.

This escalation not only affects the immediate region but also contributes to the broader geopolitical tensions involving the US and Israel's stance against Iran
