Analysts Jefferies highlight Softbank (SFTBY) and chip stocks as beneficiaries of OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra launch

OpenAI's recent release of its GPT-6 Astra language model is generating considerable excitement on Wall Street, leading to a surge in stock prices for companies associated with OpenAI. According to Artificial Analysis, while Astra matches the performance of OpenAI's previous model, it offers substantial cost efficiency, being able to perform at less than half the cost of Anthropic's Fable 5.

This has led analysts like Ben Reitzes from Melius Research to predict a continued rally for OpenAI's hardware partners, including Arista, AMD, and Broadcom, as sales forecasts become more optimistic.

Investment bank Jefferies notes that stocks linked to OpenAI have outperformed the S&P 500 since Astra's launch, with Softbank, which has invested over $64 billion in OpenAI, seeing a 30% increase in its stock. The demand for memory chips is expected to rise due to the increased workloads associated with the new LLMs, benefiting companies like Micron Technology and SK Hynix.

Overall, the launch of Astra not only reinforces OpenAI's market position but also positively impacts its supply chain and associated sectors
