In its latest earnings report, Meta Platforms revealed a 26% year-over-year revenue increase to $64.6 billion, exceeding analyst expectations by over $1 billion. The diluted earnings per share (EPS) was reported at $3.83, but excluding a significant legal settlement charge of $9.89 billion, the adjusted EPS would have been $7.40.

Despite the complexity surrounding EPS estimates, investor confidence remained strong, as evidenced by a 2% rise in after-hours trading. The focus of the earnings call was largely on the newly launched Muse AI agent, which has already attracted over 10 million users in the U.S. and Canada, with about 25% of users engaging daily.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of user retention and the potential for monetization through e-commerce tools and paid tiers for advanced users. He also noted that Muse's initial success has led to increased transaction volumes, prompting partnerships with fintech companies like Plaid and Stripe to manage the demand.

While the Muse project is currently resource-intensive, Zuckerberg anticipates significant improvements in cost efficiency over the next year, leveraging Meta's profitable core advertising business to support its AI initiatives. Additionally, Meta's Family of Apps, including Facebook and Instagram, saw record engagement, contributing to a 14% increase in global average ad prices.

However, the Reality Labs division continues to incur losses, with a forecasted $15 billion in operating losses for the upcoming year. Overall, Meta's strategic focus on AI and its robust advertising revenue position it well for future growth
