India's growing energy needs have attracted the attention of both the U.S. and Russia, with the latter currently supplying over 50% of India's crude oil imports. Despite U.S. pressure to reduce reliance on Russian oil, Indian refiners face challenges in substituting Russian and Middle Eastern crude due to their processing capabilities.

As of August, India's imports of Venezuelan crude have surged to 383,000 barrels per day, indicating a shift in sourcing strategies. The U.S. has also become a leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG), accounting for over 70% of LPG imports in July.

However, the geopolitical landscape remains complex, with potential U.S. tariffs on Russian energy imports looming, which could impact India's energy sourcing decisions. Analysts suggest that while replacing Russian oil is technically possible, it poses economic and political challenges, especially given the current constraints on global crude supply
