Analysts Barclays downgraded Dell Technologies (DELL), Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE), and NetApp (NTAP) amid concerns over enterprise AI spending

Dell Technologies experienced a significant decline in its stock price, dropping 11% on Wednesday, which also negatively impacted other companies in the data center equipment sector, including Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Oracle, and Super Micro.

This downturn follows a downgrade by Barclays analysts, who adjusted their ratings on Dell, HPE, and NetApp from buy to hold, citing a lack of substantial enterprise AI spending to justify the recent surge in stock prices.

Despite a remarkable performance this year, with Dell's stock up over 300%, the analysts expressed concerns that current revenue growth is more closely tied to a global memory shortage rather than a genuine shift towards enterprise AI adoption.

They noted that businesses are currently allocating only about 5% of their IT budgets to AI, suggesting that the anticipated hardware refresh driven by AI may not materialize as expected. Additionally, the report highlighted the cyclical nature of the memory market, with declining prices potentially impacting future revenues for infrastructure companies.

Stocks of memory manufacturers like Micron and SK Hynix also faced declines, reflecting broader market apprehensions about the sustainability of current pricing and demand trends
