According to CoinGecko's report dated August 27, despite many cryptocurrency platforms undergoing independent security audits, they still fell victim to significant cyberattacks. The report indicates that approximately 88% of the stolen funds and 60% of the affected platforms had completed these audits, suggesting that the audits may not cover all vulnerabilities.

The most notable incident was a $1.4 billion heist from Bybit in February 2025, which was linked to North Korean hackers. Other platforms like KelpDao and Drift Protocol also suffered substantial losses of $292 million and $285 million, respectively.

The findings underscore the ongoing risks in the cryptocurrency market, particularly for investors who may assume that security audits provide comprehensive protection against cyber threats
