American Airlines Increases Annual Fees on Rewards Credit Cards for the First Time Since 2018

American Airlines has announced a fee increase for its Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and Citi AAdvantage Business Mastercard, raising the annual fee from $99 to $150. This marks the first increase since 2018.

The airline is also introducing new benefits, including enhanced earning potential on hotel bookings, a TSA PreCheck credit, and an annual statement credit for in-flight purchases. This move aligns with a trend among airlines and their banking partners to raise fees on rewards credit cards, which are a significant revenue source.

Competitors like United Airlines and American Express have also raised fees on their premium cards, indicating a shift in the market as airlines seek to capitalize on the lucrative rewards segment. The new fees will take effect on January 24, 2026
