Krista Pawloski, a data worker and organizer with Turkopticon, noted that many workers are now shifting to these competing platforms due to MTurk's stagnation.
Additionally, a 2023 study indicated that a significant portion of MTurk workers utilized AI to complete tasks, raising concerns about the quality of the data produced. With Amazon ceasing to accept new customers for MTurk, many businesses that relied on the platform for data tasks are now seeking alternatives, highlighting the potential disruption in the gig economy for data workers.
