On Sunday, an explosion occurred during the start-up of operations at the Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, leading to 54 injuries and 18 individuals reported missing, according to Qatar's Interior Ministry.

The explosion was attributed to a 'technical accident,' and while emergency response teams have managed to control the fire, there has been no indication from QatarEnergy regarding potential damage to the plant. The Barzan facility, which has a capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day, plays a vital role in supplying gas to local industries and Qatar's power generation sector.

This incident comes at a time when Qatar's LNG export capacity is already under strain due to previous damage from strikes amid geopolitical tensions, which had knocked out 17% of its LNG export capacity.

The implications of this explosion could further impact Qatar's gas supply stability and its ability to meet domestic and export demands, especially given the existing vulnerabilities in its LNG infrastructure
